Duel Masters Kaijudo Showdown is an impressive recreation of the Duel Master card game sure to get the heart pumping of any hardcore card player, unfortunately there is little else to appeal to the rest of us. The game includes a staggering 300 Duel Masters cards and allows you to interact with all of the main characters from the television show.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Duel Masters card game, you start by putting cards in a mana pool. As you build this mana pool over turns you can eventually use it to summon creatures. Those creatures defend you and can attack the person you are dueling against. The object of the game is to take out the person you are dueling against. If you win, you get to keep some of their cards, which can in turn be used to create more powerful decks to play with.
Duel Masters Kaijudo Showdown plays just like this. You start the game with a pre-built deck. You can wander around trying to find people to trade with, talk to, or duel. As you win the size of your deck increases as does its variety. What makes this game a little different from its predecessor is that there is a pretty strong story in this version, leaning heavily on the television show, which has you dueling for an end purpose. The thing that will likely most appeal to fans of the card game is the enormous collection of cards you get to duel with.
The graphics aren't too impressive, but they really don't have to be. This game is an encyclopedia of Duel Masters information and game play, the fact that it looks just OK, is not going to detract people from playing it.
A really cool feature of this game is that you can link up with another person who owns the game and take them on with the decks you've built while playing solo. This really adds a ton to the replayability of the game. This is a must game for anyone who is a fan of Duel Masters, people interesting in checking the franchise out will likely enjoy it to.
